GRANTON DOWNHILL
DIRECTIONS: Head out the Maroondah highway, over the Black Spur, and through Narbethong. Take the turnoff to Marysville on your right, and follow the road until you come to a small township called Granton. After this township, you will head over the crest of a hill, and you will see a carpark on your left for "Wood's Lookout, Mt Gordon". Turn into this carpark and head up the fireroad that leaves from the left-hand corner (as you look at the carpark from the road). This fireroad should be in good condition at all times, if you find yourself getting bogged on a narrow, steep track then you're probably on the wrong road.
Follow this fireroad to the top, you should be heading west pretty much all the
way. At the top you will find a closed gate, which means you have to walk your
bike up to the very top. Once you're at the tower top, you will see a very obvious,
open track heading back down parallel to the MAIN fireroad you drove up (ie in
the opposite direction as the last part of fireroad that you walked up). This is the top of the
track. Head off down it, and whenever you have a choice of going left or right,
GO LEFT. If at any stage you find yourself back on the fireroad you drove up,
it's because you turned right. Anyway, continue down the track, eventually you
will come out at a fairly flat fireroad down the bottom. Turn right, and
ride/push the few hundred metres back to the main carpark, along the fireroad.
TRAIL DESCRIPTION:
Open slather fireroady section up top, then fairly
flowy singletrack the rest of the way down. A few small log kickers and a small
drop or 2 are
scattered through the singletrack section.
TRAIL LENGTH: 1.9 Km.
MELWAYS REF.: 510 T11
