HISTORIC RESERVES
DIRECTIONS:
Castlemaine is just off
the Calder Highway, about 100kms NW of Melbourne.
TRAIL
DESCRIPTION:
The area has
many historic gold digging sites from the mid 1800's. It is covered with old
single and double tracks, water courses, and fire trails running through
eucalypt and some pine forests. Watch out for gravel, some large and sharp!
Good cross country fun, with some steeper challenges here and there. Great for
just exploring, and discovering old mining sites, mill and dwelling remnants,
etc. Almost any direction from the center of town will take you to an
interesting area. Also try following some the local railway trails for some
interest.
